European Days kicks off nationwide on Saturday

Thirty lacquer paintings exhibited at Hanoi-based Goethe Institute on Saturday will open the ‘Europe Days’ to be held in Hanoi, HCMC and Can Tho this month. ‘Dipolar’ will feature lacquer works made over the past five years by Khai Doan, a Vietnamese-German creative director in the advertising industry and will last until June 5 Pianists Duo d’Accord will perform at the Opera House in Hanoi on Monday and at the Opera House in HCMC on Tuesday.

The annual European Film Festival will feature a selection of 13 movies and a new short film night which includes 17 shorts from nine countries by European film makers. The event will take place from May 16-27 in HCMC at Dong Da Cinema and from May 20-29 at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi. All tickets are free and available at the Goethe Institute in both cities, L’Espace in Hanoi, British Council in HCMC and Dong Da Cinema.
 
The European Literature Day held in Hanoi on May 27-28 will present new books that have recently been translated into Vietnamese. Visitors will have a chance to learn about literary works from Italy and Germany as well as children’s books from France, Belgium, and Denmark.

Children are the focus when the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation hosts the Comics Festival on May 30. The European Commission also launches a children’s painting contest. 

The Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam invites Vietnamese students to enter the short video competition on climate change entitled “Your Voice Is Heard”. The five minute videos have to reflect the impact of climate change on our lives and be filmed on digital photo cameras or mobile phones.

Entries will be sent to Sinh Vien newspaper, 5 Hoa Ma Street, Hanoi. 

‘Reaching Out Youth’ is an event where European Ambassadors will talk to local students about Europe and its relationship with Vietnam. The talks will be held on May 17 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanity in HCMC, and on May 18 at Can Tho University in Can Tho.
 
The business community will participate in seminars on Europe-Vietnam trade relations and Southeast Asia-Ireland business in HCMC on May 11 and 13 respectively. Besides, a cultural roundtable discussion ‘Shared Values of Successful Women in Vietnam’s Modern Society’ will take place on Wednesday at Saturday Café in HCMC and May 20 at Goethe Institute in Hanoi.

The Southeast Asian Gaelic Games 2011 draws teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam at RMIT University, HCMC on May 15.
