Scott's Restaurant

‘Without question, the restaurant of choice in central London’, insists an admirer of this gloriously re-energised seafood specialist – & his enthusiasm is echoed by approval from every quarter. The interior is pure, A-list ‘eye candy’ – from the oyster bar shimmering with glistening crustacea & the sleek oak panelling hung with covetable Brit art to the multitude of mirrors bouncing Scott’s bonhomie around the room.

It may not be groundbreaking stuff, but the kitchen makes its point emphatically through a simple respect for top-drawer raw materials. Well-to-do punters get their fingers dirty piling into platters of fruits de mer, but you don’t need claw crackers to eat famously here; try pan-fried slip soles bathed in parsley butter, cod with Padrón peppers & chorizo, or fillet of brill with hedgerow garlic, salsify & trompettes. Fish is the star, but meat eaters aren’t short-changed – witness Black Mount venison fillet with neeps & wild cranberries. Puds are nursery comforters, or you can close with a lesser-spotted savoury such as herring roes on toast. ‘It doesn’t get much better than this for business or pleasure.’

Wine List: While retaining its core values, the cellar at Scott’s has increased in scope lately. The bulk focuses on Europe & there is a lovely collection of pure whites to tackle the crustaceans. There are now useful notes on selected wines & a good by the glass/carafe collection assists in finding the perfect food partner.
